Lady Raiders Complete Weekend Play at 3-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders completed their opening weekend of tennis action with three wins in three days.
After posting a 4-2 win over UT-Arlington on Friday and gaining a 4-2 victory over Tulane on Saturday, the Lady Raiders closed out New Mexico on Sunday, 6-1, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Doubles matches were played for the first time this season, and Texas Tech won the doubles point of the match as well as all three matches. The No. 1 team of Kelsy Garland and Natalie Leitch defeated Ashley Bonner and Anya Villanueva, 8-2. Tech's No. 2 team of Caroline Starck and Elizabeth Ullathorne stopped New Mexico's Kristin Eggleston and Laura Richardson, 8-2. The Lady Raiders swept doubles play when the No. 3 team of Sandra Dynka and Kerryn Potgieter edged Michaela Oldani and Amy Shipperd, 8-7.
In singles play, the Lady Raiders won the first five completed matches before Sandra Dynka was edged out at the No. 1 spot by New Mexico's Anya Villanueva, 7-5, 6-4, in the longest played match of the day.
Kelsy Garland won her No. 2 singles match over Ashley Bonner, 7-6, 6-2. Elizabeth Ullathorne posted identical 6-2 scores to defeat Kristin Eggleston in the No. 3 position, and Natalie Leitch also claimed victory on identical 6-0 scores to win at the No. 4 spot.Caroline Starck defeated Laura Richardson, 6-0, 6-2 in No. 5 singles play, and Lorena Aviles downed Michaela Oldani 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
