Today's game marked the 69th meeting between Texas Tech and Texas A&M. The series against the Aggies is tied with Baylor as the longest series in school history.
Texas Tech won the coin toss and elected to defer. Texas Tech is now 5-3 on the season in the opening coin toss.
Texas Tech wore white jerseys, black pants and black helmets for the second consecutive week.

Lyle Leong MOVES INTO THIRD ON SCHOOL'S CAREER TD LIST - NOW TIED FOR THIRD PLACE ON SINGLE-SEASON LIST
Lyle Leong caught three touchdown passes marking his fourth multiple touchdown performance of the season and the eighth of his career. Leong now has 26 career touchdowns, which places him third in Texas Tech career history for receiving touchdowns. His three touchdown receptions gives him 13 this season, which puts him in in a three-way tie for third place on the Tech single-season list. It marked the fifth time in his career catching a career-high three touchdowns in a game.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
Texas Tech was forced to punt on its opening drive for the third consecutive week. The Red Raider offense has only converted its opening drive into points twice this season (at New Mexico and vs. Baylor in the Cotton Bowl).
Texas Tech jumped out to a 7-0 lead with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter when Eric Stephens scampered in on a 1-yard touchdown run. The touchdown by Stephens marked the first time since the New Mexico game on Sept. 11 that the Red Raiders scored the initial points in a game. Stephen's touchdown was his fourth of the season and the sixth of his career.
The Tech defense picked up its first turnover since the Oklahoma State game midway through the second quarter when Cody Davis recovered by fumble by Texas A&M's Brandon Jackson.
Sophomore Cody Davis picked up his first career sack on Texas A&M's fourth offensive possession in the first quarter.
Eric Stephens 48-yard kickoff return in the final seconds of the first quarter marked his second longest return of the season. His season-high is a 93-yard return at New Mexico on Sept. 11.
Junior receiver Adam James picked up his first catch of the season with just under eight minutes remaining in the first half. The reception gave Texas Tech a first-down.
Lyle Leong's 15-yard touchdown reception with 5:33 remaining in the first half was his 11th of the season and moved him into third place on the school's career receiving touchdowns list with 24. He later caught two additional touchdown passes in the game.
Senior safety Franklin Mitchem registered his first career sack on Texas A&M's second to last offensive possessionof the first half.
Senior receiver Detron Lewis caught a 54-yard reception on the first drive of the second half and that goes down as the second longest reception of the year. Sophomore receiver Austin Zouzalik owns the season long with a 55-yard reception at New Mexico on Sept. 11.
Senior Bront Bird made his second career interception (both this season) in the fourth quarter with 14:27 left to play giving Tech a short field. It was the first interception for Texas Tech since Bird and D.J. Johnson both had interceptions against Oklahoma State.
Senior quarterback Steven Sheffield entered the game in the fourth quarter for the Red Raiders first drive of the final quarter.
Sheffield threw his first touchdown pass of the season to Lyle Leong in the fourth quarter with 11:30 left to play to make the score 38-20. He added another touchdown to Leong, giving Sheffield 16 career touchdown passes.
Lyle Leong caught his third touchdown pass - a 35-yard catch - from Sheffield to make the score 45-27 with 2:14 left to play in the fourth quarter. The touchdown reception for Leong marked his 13th touchdown of the season and the 26th of his career.
With under a minute remaining, Bront Bird forced and recovered a fumble, marking his first strip and recovery of the season. Bird now has two career forced fumbles and three career fumble recoveries.
