Texas Tech Postgame Quotes
Head Coach Kristy Curry
On getting the team experience
"I can see that the freshman were a little bit nervous. They were a little bit pale at times, but it was great to be able to put them in that kind of environment. I want to thank our crowd. I thought our crowd was the best exhibition crowd I have seen since I have been here. It was just a great environment for us to be able to get some game like minutes with the lights on, and I really think it is going to help us come Friday night."
On the defensive play against Angelo State
"We just want to be able to change our defenses. I think to be able to change the pace of the game, not be so predictable. We are going to pick up some full, and we are going to pick up some half. We have got to continue to improve our communication, as far as everybody being on the same page that is on the floor. I thought defensively, obviously, we gave up some middle penetration and missed a close out or two, and fell down a couple of times. But those things are going to happen. Fundamentally, I thought we were as good defensively as we have been, and there will be some good film clips to go back and teach with."
On this team being more experienced
"I think that the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores, and you see that with Mo(Monique Smalls), Chynna (Brown), and Christine (Hyde). They are much improved, and they committed themselves in the offseason. I think the biggest factor, to be expected, from all three of them is to be consistent. We need Chynna to be Chynna, like she was today, everyday. I know she wants to be. We just need more consistency from those three sophomores. Casey brings a lot of experience against a high level of competition. She was a Top 50 player coming out of high school. It is exciting to have Chynna, Mo, Casey, Christine and Mary (Bokenkamp). The list goes on and on. I had said all along that our depth is going to be key to our success this year. We just pray everyday that we stay healthy."
On this team compared to last year's team
"We really don't like to look back. I think you learn from your past, good and bad. I don't really think much about a year ago. It is pretty obvious we are a much improved basketball team, so hopefully the end result is going to be much improved."
Guard Casey Morris
On getting back on the court
"It was still exciting. Just to be out on the court again, and in front of the fans. The adrenaline and everything, and everybody playing together, it was really exciting."
On the team chemistry
"I think it was good. In practice we see it, and everyone gets along. When we play together it is a lot more fun. To be able to work together to score really helps."
Guard Chynna Brown
On team chemistry
"It is a big difference. This team is just totally different, and we all have really good chemistry together. We all play good together, and if one person is not knocking down shots, the next person will step up and start knocking down shots."
On her focus coming out of the offseason
"Just trying to stay healthy. Whatever I could do to just stay healthy so I would be able to play this year. Last year I didn't get to play because of my injuries. I was just working hard to do whatever it took to be out there on the floor."
