LUBBOCK, Texas - A solo home run in the top of the first from Chris Richburg (2005-09), gave the Alumni Team an early 1-0 lead but the Red Raiders scored 21 unanswered runs to take a 21-1 win in Saturday's Alumni Game at Dan Law Field.
Sunny skies and warm temperatures drew just under a 1,000 people to Dan Law Field as over 70 former players came back to campus for today's game. The Alumni Weekend began last night in the Dan Law Field Clubhouse with a special dinner and concluded with today's alumni game.
"I think for the first year, we couldn't be more excited," said Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer. "It was great to have so many guys come back and I think they have all had a blast. We really enjoyed knocking it around today and I think they've all made plans to come back next year."
Richburg's home run in the first would be the lone run of the day for the alumni team and the only one allowed by Tech starter Bobby Doran. Doran, a junior transfer from Seward C.C., was sensational on the afternoon as he allowed just one run on four hits and struckout six with no walks over five innings of work.
Leading the Texas Tech offense was freshman right fielder Barrett Barnes who went 3-for-6 on the afternoon with a double, triple and a game-high six RBIs. Scott LeJeune went 4-for-6 with three RBI while Joey Kenworthy ended the afternoon 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
Texas Tech opens it 2010 season next Friday afternoon against Jacksonville State in the Red Raider Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will follow the Jacksonville State-Michigan game which is set for 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH or online at www.texastech.com.
