- Texas Tech and Michigan met for the first time on the diamond this evening and Tech's 4-2 win over the Wolverines gives the Red Raiders a 1-0 lead in the all-time series. In fact, the Michigan baseball team is the first Wolverine squad in any sport to face the Red Raiders in Lubbock.
- The Tech pitching staff held a Michigan offense that had scored 33 combined runs in their two previous games before this evening to just two runs on four total hits. Tech did not allow a single Michigan hit over the last 7 1/3 innings and just three base runners (two walks and one hit batter) over that stretch.
- Freshman right fielder Barrett Barnes picked up his seventh RBI of the year when he drove in Tech's second run of the game in the third inning. His seven RBIs lead the team.
