Lady Raiders Fall to No. 22 Mississippi

LUBBOCK,, Texas - After shutting out Southern Mississippi on Friday in Hattiesburg, the Lady Raiders lost at the University of Mississippi in Oxford on Saturday.
No. 22 nationally ranked University of Mississippi (4-1) squad downed Texas Tech (4-4) at the Gillom Sports Center's indoor courts, 7-0.
Ole Miss claimed each of the doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot, Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx stopped Sandra Dynka and Elizabeth Ullathorne, 8-4. The Rebel duo of Connor Vogel and Gabby Rangel downed Natalie Leitch and Kelsy Garland, 8-1. Caroline Starck and Lorena Aviles fell in No. 3 doubles to Laura van de Stroet and Abby Guthrie, 8-2.
At No. 1 singles, Kristi Boxx, ranked No. 30 in the nation, defeated Sandra Dynka, 6-3, 6-2. Elizabeth Ullathorne lost her No. 2 match to Karen Nijssen, 6-3, 7-6 (2). At the No. 3 spot, Natalie Leitch lost to Abby Guthrie, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Kelsy Garland fell to Connor Vogel at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Laura van de Stroet downed Caroline Starck, 6-3, 6-3. In the final match of the day, Rebel Gabby Rangel closed out Lorena Aviles, 6-0, 6-3.
The Lady Raiders travel to Reno next weekend for their final non-conference matches of the season against Nevada-Reno and the University of San Francisco before returning home to begin Big 12 play.
The Lady Raiders open conference play against Baylor on March 3 at 3 p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.
