Lady Raiders Win Overtime Thriller at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Jordan Murphree scored a game-high 26 points, including 10 points in the overtime period, as Texas Tech walked out of Bramlage Coliseum with a 75-67 win over Kansas State on Wednesday, snapping a six-game losing streak to the Wildcats.
The game was back and forth from the get go as there were 11 lead changes and seven ties in the game. Nine of those 11 ties came in the first half.
The Wildcats (12-15/4-9 Big 12) got on the board first hitting a bucket the first 30 seconds. Jordan Barncastle hit a pair of free throws at 16:35 for Tech's (17-10/5-8 Big 12) first points of the game to knot the score at 2-2. The Lady Raiders finally hit their first field goal at 15:59 as Ashlee Roberson nailed a three-pointer to put Tech up 5-4. The last lead change of the half came at the 5:37 mark on a layup by Christine Hyde to give Tech a 21-20 advantage. Tech outscored K-State 7-3 to end the half with a 28-23 lead.
The Lady Raiders opened the second half scoring four-straight points over the first two minutes and 10 seconds to give them a nine-point lead at 32-23. K-State kept it close and got within three points, 36-33, at 15:34 as Branshea Brown made a layup. Tech responded by scoring four-straight points on jumpers by Barncastle and Murphree to go up by seven with 14:30 left.
Tech got up by seven again, 42-35, on a basket by Kierra Mallard with 13:20 to go in regulation before Kansas State went on a 10-2 run to take its first lead of the second half at 45-44 as Brittany Chambers nailed a jumper with 9:17 remaining. Tech tied it again at 48-48 as Roberson sank two free throws with 6:39 left on the clock.
Tech took a four-point lead at the 5:25 mark and then the Wildcats knotted it up again at 54-54 with 2:21 to go. Tech took its last lead at 58-56 on a basket by Christine Hyde with 1:12 left. Murphree went the charity stripe with 10 seconds remaining for a double bonus but missed both attempts and K-State tied it with two seconds left on a layup by Chambers to send the game into overtime.
The overtime period belonged to Tech and Murphree. The Lady Raiders led the entire five minutes scoring first on a pair of free throws by Murphree. She then hit two-straight jumpers to put Tech up by six, 64-58, with 1:48 left in the game. Tech's largest lead of the contest came as Murphree hit two free throws to give her team an 11-point advantage at 71-60 with 34 seconds to go. Tech made four more free throws the next 23 seconds of the game to claim the eight-point win.
It was the first time Tech had won in Manhattan since Jan. 18, 2000. It also marked the first overtime win for Tech in the Kristy Curry era. It has lost twice in double overtime, once at Oklahoma in 2007 and earlier this year against Texas in Lubbock.
Along with her 26 points, Murphree also finished with eight rebounds and a game-high four assists. Roberson added 14 points and seven boards. Monique Smalls grabbed eight rebounds as well.
Kari Kincaid led K-State with 18 points.
Tech outrebounded the Wildcats 39-32, while K-State outshot Tech 42.6 percent to 38.2 percent from the field.
The Lady Raiders host No. 23/21 Oklahoma State on Sun., Feb. 28, at 12 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on FSN. It will also be Senior Day for the Lady Raiders as they honor their three seniors prior to the game.
