LUBBOCK, Texas - A day following an eight-over performance in the Amer Ari Invitational first round, the Texas Tech men's golf team shot a 10-over 298 Thursday to drop into a tie for seventh entering the final day of play.
Opening the second round atop the individual leaderboard, Nils Floren dropped into a tie for 20th following a five-over 77, which put the junior seven shots off leader Kevin Kway of Oklahoma State.
Despite Floren's struggles, three of Tech's four remaining players improved their first round performance as Chris Ward, Jacob Smith and Matt Smith each carded 74 rounds. Tyler Weworski added a 76 round for Tech. Ward, Simon and Weworski are all tied for 34th overall.
Washington claimed the team lead after a one-under 287 that put the Huskies two-over overall, while Stanford and Oregon are both within two three shots of the lead.
Tech's 18-over card from the first two days trails Big 12 rival Texas by five strokes and top-ranked Oklahoma State by 10. The conference's lone other participant, Colorado, sits in 14th place at 34-over.
The final round of play is currently underway as action resumed at 11:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. locally). Live scoring is available throughout the tournament at www.golfstat.com.
