Lady Raiders Fall at North Texas

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (3-1) lost their first match of the season this afternoon at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton to North Texas, 5-2.
The match with the Mean Green (3-2) was the first road trip of the season for the Lady Raiders after they opened with three victories at home to start the season.
In No. 1 doubles, Kelsy Garland and Natalie Leitch defeated UNT's Irina Paraschiv and Amy Joubert , 8-6.
North Texas claimed the doubles point of the match by winning the No.2 and No. 3 doubles matches. Barbora Vykydalova and Catalina Cruz stopped Elizabeth Ullathorne and Caroline Starck in the second doubles match, 8-6. North Texas then gained their other doubles win as No. 3 Madura Ranganathan and Paula Dinuta downed Kerryn Potgieter and Mia Matuszak, 8-5.
In singles, Texas Tech won at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions. Elizabeth Ullathorne defeated Paula Dinuta, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 at the third spot. Teammate Caroline Starck defeated Amy Joubert at the sixth position, 6-2, 7-5.
At No. 1 singles, UNT's Irina Paraschiv beat Sandra Dynka, 6-0, 6-4. Madura Ranganathan topped Kelsy Garland at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 7-6. Barbora Vykydalova won at No. 4 singles over Natalie Leitch, 6-4, 7-5. Catalina Cruz edged Lady Raider Lorena Aviles in No. 5 singles, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.
Next weekend, Texas Tech will face Arizona on February 13 and Rice the following day in Houston. Both matches will begin at 11 a.m.
The Lady Raiders are on the road for six more matches before returning to the McLeod Tennis Center for their opening conference match against Baylor on March 3.
