Lady Raiders Open Conference Play on Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (5-5) open conference play against Baylor (6-2) on Wednesday at the McLeod Tennis Center beginning at 3 p.m.
Baylor's fifth-ranked women's tennis took No. 8 Michigan down to the wire, but weren't able to pull it out, losing 4-3 on Friday evening in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
In their final road match before beginning conference play, Texas Tech was edged by Nevada-Reno in the yesterday's match at the Lakeridge Tennis Club in Reno, 4-3.
The Lady Raiders claimed the doubles point over Reno after winning the first two matches.
Natalie Leitch and Kelsy Garland downed Maria Mizyuk and Sophie Stevens, 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. Elizabeth Ullathorne and Caroline Starck defeated Hashiguchi at the No. 2 position, 9-8 (7-3). At the No. 3 spot, Kerryn Potgieter and Sandra Dynka lost to Lais Ogata and Emma Verberne, 9-8 (7-4).
Sandra Dynka lost to Reno's Maria Mizyuk at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4. In No. 2 singles play, Florence De Vrye edged Elizabeth Ullathorne in extended play, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). Natalie Leitch lost to Emma Verberne at the third position, 6-3, 6-3. Veteran Kelsy Garland added a point for Texas Tech with her win over Lais Ogata, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in No. 4 singles. Freshman Caroline Starck added another point for the Lady Raiders with her win over Sophie Stevens, 6-2, 6-2. The No. 6 singles match went to Reno with Aline Laurioux's, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over Lorena Aviles.
After hosting Baylor on Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Raiders are home for two matches, a March 19 match against Oklahoma, and on March 21 against Oklahoma State.
