LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Softball, which is off to its best start ever at 13-1, won three games over the weekend and returns home to open a 15-game homestand with an 11-game win streak on the line. Tech welcomes Houston (4-6) on Wednesday and then hosts Boise State and Wichita State in a three-team tournament beginning with the neutral game, BSU vs. WSU, at 1 p.m. on Friday. Tech will play Boise State following the conclusion of that game, with a 3 p.m. published start time.
Tech never has faced Houston Baptist or Boise State, now in its second season of competitive softball. The Red Raiders beat Wichita State, 2-1, in a rain shuffled UT Arlington tournament match up which replaced the scheduled game with Prairie View A&M, to move to 4-5 all-time record with the Shockers. The rained out game with North Texas (scheduled for March 1) may be replayed later this spring if both teams can find a window in their conference schedules to accommodate a make up.
Tech's current 11-game win streak is the program's second best all time. The Amanda Renfro led 1998 squad had a 13-game stretch from Feb. 18 to March 6, which stands as the best ever run. The 15-game homestand is also the longest home stretch the team has ever had, eclipsing the 14-game stretch the 1996 program had from March 8 through April 3.
The Red Raiders currently lead the Big 12 in hitting with their team .325 average.
