Texas Tech will host its 2010 Big 12 home opener this weekend against eighth-ranked and rival Texas. The Red Raiders and Longhorns will tangle in a three-game series at Dan Law Field beginning at 6:36 p.m. on Friday. The series will resume at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday and will conclude at 12:06 p.m. on Sunday. Advance tickets for the series are currently on sale online at texastech.com or by calling the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH. The Dan Law Field ticket office will open at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
TELEVISION
Two of the three games this weekend will be televised as the Texas Tech Sports Network will air the series opener on Friday and FSN will televise the finale on Sunday. Friday's game will be shown on various network affiliates across the state and regionally on Fox College Sports. David Thetford will call the action for TTSN while Mike Gustafson will provide analysis. Sunday's finale will be shown across the entire Big 12 footprint on FSN. Greg Lucas (play-by-play) and Jack Lazorko (analyst) will call the action.
RANKINGS
Texas enters the weekend series ranked No. 8 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches and Baseball America top 25 polls; No. 10 by Collegiate Baseball Magazine and No. 9 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Texas Tech is unranked.
TEXAS TECH SPORTS NETWORK
All 56 regular-season games will be carried live by Learfield Sports on the Texas Tech Sports Network. Red Raiders fans can listen to all the action on Double T 104.3 (the flagship station of the Texas Tech Sports Network) in Lubbock or KHOB 1390 AM in Hobbs, N.M. Fans outside of the above listening areas can tune in via the world wide web at texastech.com and purchase a monthly subscription to RaiderVision All-Access. Robert Giovannetti returns to the broadcast booth for his third season as the play-by-play voice while Daren Hays joins the network as the full-time color analyst.

UP NEXT
Texas Tech will make the short trip south to Midland on Tuesday evening for a midweek match-up against New Mexico State at CitiBank Ballpark (home of Double-A Oakland A's). Tech then returns home for a weekend Big 12 series against Kansas State. The Kansas State series will be played Thursday-Saturday (April 1-3) due to the Easter holiday.
THE SERIES
Texas enters the weekend series at Dan Law Field with a 97-34 lead in the all-time series with Texas Tech. The Longhorns also hold a 43-18 lead in games played in Lubbock.
TEXAS TECH - TEXAS NOTES
- Texas Tech and Texas renew their rivalry this weekend at Dan Law Field with a three-game series. Friday's game will mark the 132nd meeting between the two clubs and the 61st meeting here in Lubbock.
- Texas Tech and Texas first met on the diamond on March 22, 1968 - a 7-5 Texas win here in Lubbock. Since that first meeting, the two school's have met annually and the series is the fourth most played in school history.
- Texas has won each of the last three series dating back to 2007, including a 2-1 series win last year in Austin.
- The two teams split a weather-shortened, two-game series 1-1 here in 2006. The Longhorns won the first game of that series 4-3 but a 15-strikeout performance from Miles Morgan the following day gave Tech a 2-1 win and a series split. The third and final game was cancelled due to weather.
- Tech's last series win against the Longhorns was back in 2002 when the Red Raiders took 2-of-3 here at Dan Law Field.
SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
The Texas Longhorns bring a high national ranking of No. 8 to Dan Law Field this weekend for the series against Texas Tech. The Longhorns improved to 16-5 overall with a 5-1 win over No. 25 Rice on Tuesday at Disch-Falk Field. Texas took 2-of-3 over the weekend against Nebraska to claim its first Big 12 series win of the year.
The Longhorns enter the weekend with the third best pitching staff in the nation in terms of earned run average. Texas pitchers boast a combined ERA of 2.34 and are holding opponents to a .217 batting average. As as staff, the Longhorns have allowed just 48 earned runs and 58 total runs. Closer Chance Ruffin leads the team with a 0.41 ERA over 22 innings of relief work. Ruffin has allowed just one earned run, five walks and struckout 28 batters on his way to a 4-1 record and five saves.
Offensively, Texas enters the series with a .263 team batting average along with 21 sacrifice hits and 26 stolen bases. Right fielder Kevin Keyes leads the team with a .288 average and is second on the team behind Cameron Rupp with 12 RBIs. Rupp is the team RBI leader with 13 while Jordan Etier is the home run leader with five.
