LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech scored early and often and got solid pitching from senior Ashly Jacobs (5-0) to extend its now program-best win streak to 14 with a 9-0 win over Boise State (2-10) in softball action at Rocky Johnson Field and to push its record to 16-1 on the season.
Leah Legler, Logan Hall and Holley Gentsch each collected a pair of hits, with Legler and Hall each driving in three to account for Tech's biggest offensive output. Ashley Hamada scored three times and singled in the afternoon game which is part of a weekend long, three game series that features Wichita State along with the Broncos and the Red Raiders.
Jacobs scattered three hits and walked only one in pitching the complete-game (five innings via the mercy rule) shut out and now has 41 wins, one shy of tying Erin Crawford for second on Tech's all-time wins list. (Former All American Amanda Renfro has 93 wins which is out of reach.)
Games continue tomorrow morning on campus south of the University Medical Center as Wichita State and Boise State will begin the day with an 11 a.m match up, followed by a Boise State versus Texas Tech game scheduled for 1 p.m. and then a Wichita State and Tech matchup scheduled for 3 p.m., but likely to begin closer to 3:30.
