AUSTIN - Ashly Jacobs' (11-3) streak of 22 2/3 innings pitched without giving up an earned run ended abruptly in the top of the second as No. 17 Texas' short stop Loryn Johnson hit a solo home run and the Longhorns added three more in the third to beat Texas Tech, 4-0.
Ashley Brokeshoulder came on to relieve Jacobs in the third and did a good job of quieting the Texas bats, but the damage had been done. L. Johnson finished by accounting for all the Longhorn's runs, with a two-for-three performance: two runs scored and two more driven in.
The Longhorns ace, Blair Luna, tied up the Tech bats all evening as only Leah Legler and McKenzie Clemmons could manage singles off the freshman. She struck out 14 Red Raiders a few hours after being named the nation's pitcher of the prior week.
The Red Raiders return home 30-7, 2-3 to host Nebraska for a weekend series at Rocky Johnson Field. The first pitch on Saturday is set for 2 p.m. See you there!
