Lady Raiders Drop Overtime Contest at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The regular season came to an end for the Texas Tech women's basketball as they finished Big 12 play with a 58-55 overtime loss at Missouri on Sunday afternoon.
The first half was a close one as there were three lead changes as the biggest lead by either team was five points when Missouri (12-17/2-14 Big 12) led 11-6 as RaeShara Brown made a layup with 13:39 to go in the period. From there, Tech (17-13/5-11 Big 12) went on a 9-0 run to take a four-point advantage at 15-11 when Kierra Mallard hit a layup with 7:03 left on the clock. The Tigers then outscored the Lady Raiders 12-5 the remainder of the half to take a 23-20 advantage at the break.
Mizzou opened the second half on a 9-2 run to go up by 10 points when Jessra Johnson made a layup at the 14:53 mark. However, Tech battled back, scoring six points in a minute and a half time span to cut the lead to four, 32-28. The Lady Raiders would tie it up, 39-39 with 5:10 to go in the contest when Ashlee Roberson rolled in a layup. The Lady Raiders' first lead of the half came at 2:41 when Mallard hit a jumper to make the score 45-43. Johnson knotted it up for Mizzou on a pair of free throws with 1:02 remaining in regulation. Tech's Monique Smalls was fouled as she drove to the basket and connected of both charity stripe attempts to give Tech back the lead at 47-45 with 47 seconds left. Christine Flores then responded with a layup for the Tigers with 30 seconds to go. Tech had the ball but was unable to get a shot off before time expired.
The overtime period belonged to Mizzou as they came out strong scoring eight-straight points to take a 55-47 lead with 1:16 left. Roberson hit a three-pointer for Tech's first points of the overtime with 1:05 to play. Tech got within one, 56-55, when Jordan Murphree hit her first basket of the game, a three-pointer with 33 seconds to go. The Tigers hit two of four free throw attempts over the final 33 seconds to claim the three-point win.
Mallard finished with a double-double as she had 17 points and 14 rebounds and Roberson added 14 points.
Johnson led Mizzou with 18 points.
Both team finished the game shooting 37.9 percent from the field (22-58) , while Tech outrebounded the Tigers 44-36.
The Lady Raiders will play in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship March 11-14, at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
