
Lamb and Light Win Regional Awards

LUBBOCK, Texas - The newly ranked No. 6 Texas Tech Red Raiders picked up some hardware handed out by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as Bryce Lamb was named the 2010 Men's Mountain Regional Field Athlete of the Year and associate head coach Rock Light was named the 2010 Men's Mountain Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Big 12 Indoor Performer of the Year and Outstanding Freshman, Lamb has been ranked in the top 10 nationally all season in both the long jump and triple jump. He was the Big 12 high point performer after winning titles in both the long jump and triple jump.
His long jump title came after his jump of 8.14M (26'-8.50") which is currently second-best in the NCAA. He won the triple jump title on his final attempt of the competition and moved to No. 3 in the NCAA with a mark of 16.47M (54'-00.50"). In both events he set school records, Big 12 meet records and personal bests.
In his fifth year at Tech, Light has two of the top horizontal jumpers in the nation. Lamb is the only athlete ranked in the top five in both the long jump and triple jump in the nation. Under Light's guidance he won the Big 12 indoor titles in the long jump and triple jump by setting new school records and Big 12 meet records.
Light also has coached senior Darrell Roddick ranked sixth in the nation in the triple jump and he finished third at the Big 12 indoor meet. Brian Porter qualified for his second NCAA Indoor Championships in the pole vault under Light as he cleared an indoor personal best of 5.38M (17'-7.75").
Two women have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships under Light. Freshman Shade Weygandt in the pole vault and junior Kelsey Lloyd in the pentathlon will both compete in Fayetteville, Ark. Weygandt is the ranked fifth in the pole vault while Lloyd is 14th in the pentathlon.
Both will be in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the NCAA Indoor Championships being held March 12-13.
