No. 11 Sooners Prevail In First Game Of Doubleheader

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma right-hander Zach Neal held Texas Tech to just one run on four hits in a complete game effort while the OU offense racked up 12 hits and the Sooners won the first game of a Big 12 doubleheader this afternoon against the Red Raiders 12-1.
The loss dropped Texas Tech to 18-19 on the year and to 6-7 in Big 12 play while the Sooners improved to 26-8 overall and to 6-5 in the conference.
Oklahoma jumped out to a 1-0 lead in top of the first and never looked back as the Sooners plated two more runs in the third and one in the fourth to build a 4-0 advantage.
The Red Raiders scratched out their only run of the day in the bottom half of the fourth on a RBI sacrifice fly from Michael Reed. Reed's sacrifice scored Joey Kenworthy who led off the inning with a walk.
The Sooners scored two runs over each of the final four innings to take a 12-1 win series-opening win.
Neal was spectacular on the night for the Sooners as he pitched just the second complete game of the year against the Red Raiders and improved to 5-1. Brett Bruening (2-3) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks over five innings of work.
