Lady Raiders Topple Missouri, 5-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Lady Raiders (9-10, 4-5 Big 12) won their third consecutive conference match with Sunday's win over Missouri, 5-2.
Texas Tech lost the doubles point as Missouri won at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Kelsy Garland and Natalie Leitch fell at the top spot, 8-5. Elizabeth Ullathorne and Sandra Dynka then downed Missouri's No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Missouri claimed the doubles point in the match with their 9-7 win at No. 3 doubles over Caroline Starck and Stefanie Peana.
The Lady Raiders bounced back to win five of the six singles matches.
Elizabeth Ullathorne started things off for Texas Tech with her 6-1, 6-1, win at No.4 singles over Maria Christensen to even the match score at 1-1.
Junior Kelsy Garland gave the Lady Raiders a 2-1 edge with her 7-6 (7-0), 6-1, win over Jamie Mera at No. 3 singles.
Missouri's Mallory Weber tied the match at 2-2 with her 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 2 doubles over Natalie Leitch. It was the last scoring in the match for the Tigers.
At No. 6 singles, Lorena Aviles defeated Kristen Bleakley, 6-2, 6-3, as Texas Tech regained the match lead, 3-2, with two matches still playing. Sandra Dynka closed out Kaitlyn Ritchie, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles to secure the match win for the Lady Raiders.
Caroline Starck's match with Andrea Lewis at No. 5 singles was the last match being played. Caroline won the first set, 6-1, lost the second set, 0-6, and won the third set tiebreaker, 9-7, to complete the match score at 5-2.
Upcoming graduates, Kerryn Potgieter and Natalie Day, were recognized at the beginning of the matches today. Natalie will graduate in August and plans to attend graduate school at Texas Tech. Kerryn, a May graduate, is seventh on Texas Tech's career list with 55 singles victories, and is eighth on the career doubles chart with 53 wins.
The Lady Raiders conclude the 2009-2010 conference season with their last two matches on the road at Kansas on April 23, and at Kansas State at April 25.
The Big 12 Championships get underway in Austin, Texas, beginning on April 29.
