LUBBOCK, Texas - After a 2-0 victory over SMU last weekend, the Texas Tech soccer team returns home for its final two matches of the spring, beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday against West Texas A&M at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
The match was originally scheduled for March 27, but was pushed back due to inclement weather in the Lubbock area. The Red Raiders close the weekend at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Red and Black Match.
Tech's win over the Mustangs continues its strong spring as the Red Raiders are currently 3-0-1. Conner Williams and Sarah Ellison had the match's only goals, with both coming from Taylor Lytle assists, while Erin Wikelius and Colleen Pitts split the shutout in goal.
"After 45 minutes of listless soccer, we played the second half more like the team I am used to watching," Tech head coach Tom Stone said. "We moved the ball well and scored two nice goals. Of course we are paying attention to the results in the spring, but it's more about our performances and if we are improving during this time of year. Overall, having to come out of halftime needing to play better was a good thing to go through, and I was happy to see that we did."
Tech's other scheduled match on Sunday against North Texas was cancelled due to rainy conditions in the Denton area.
The Red and Black Match is a combined effort with Texas Tech's Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter benefiting the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas. More information on the match will be released later this week.
