Preview: Big 12 Women's Golf Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Armed with three talented freshmen and a first-year head coach, the Texas Tech women's golf team will open up play tomorrow morning in the first round of the 2010 Big 12 Conference Championships at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.
Texas Tech enters this year's tournament as the No. 5 seed and will be looking to avenge last year's 11th-place finish in the conference championship held at the Rawls Course in Lubbock. The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Oklahoma, will be played over the course of three days with each round consisting of 18 holes. The Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club is a par-72, 6,322 yard course.
"We are really excited about finally getting to the Big 12," said Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson. "I think our team is looking forward to proving themselves out on the course and strengthening our case for an NCAA Regional berth."
The Lady Raiders enter the Big 12 tournament field having been led all season long by three talented freshmen in Gabby Dominguez, Kim Kaufman and Beverly Mendoza. Dominguez has posted a team-high four top 10 finishes this season and has posted a 74.7 average score per round. Kaufman has one top 10 finish under her belt and is averaging a 75 per round while Mendoza is close behind with an average round of 76.
Rosalyn Kim has enjoyed a solid senior season as she has one top five finish to her credit and is third on the team with an average round score of 75.3.
Pairings for the first day begin at 8 a.m. with No. 10 Oklahoma, No.11 Kansas and No. 12 Kansas State starting off at the first tee, and No. 4 Baylor, No. 5 Texas Tech and No. 6 Iowa State on the 10th. Beginning at 8:50 a.m., No. 7 Nebraska, No. 8 Missouri and No. 9 Colorado will be on the No. 1 tee, while No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 Oklahoma State and No. 3 Texas will swing off the 10th.
For days two and three, the low three teams shall be paired together while the remaining nine teams will be paired in threesomes according to their finish in the previous rounds. When play begins off the No. 1 and No. 10 tees, start times shall be made in a horseshoe arrangement according to the previous day's finish.
