McCauley Named Semifinalist for Assistant Award

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech assistant men's golf coach Marty McCauley is among 10 semifinalist for the prestigious Jan Strickland Assistant Men's Golf Coach of the Year Award, presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf. The Strickland Award is presented to the NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA or NJCAA assistant coach that, among other things, has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.
A total of 10 coaches were named semifinalists including Josh Brewer of Southern California, South Carolina's Michael Burcin, Jordan Byrd of Clemson, Washington's Garrett Clegg, Corey Maggard of Transylvania, Florida State's Chris Malloy, Hastings' Lloyd McIntyre, Shane Warren of LSU and Michigan's Chris Whitten.
McCauley has been instrumental thoughout his five seasons with the program, including this season as the Red Raiders are currently ranked 10th nationally in the latest Golfstat.com rankings. The team is awaiting an invitation for the NCAA regional round and potential trip to the program's fourth NCAA Championships appearance in five seasons.
McCauley's on-course instruction and guidance also has paid dividends for individual members of the team. Nils Floren currently is among the top 20 players in the nation, while Chris Ward is fresh off of winning the program's first conference individual title in 14 years. Ward won the Big 12 Conference title last weekend.
Finalists for the Strickland Award - which has been sponsored by TaylorMade-adidas Golf since its inception in 2003 - will be named on May 12 with the recipient announced June 1.
The Strickland Award recipient will have the opportunity to further his professional development by receiving an invitation to the TaylorMade-adidas Golf Kingdom in Carlsbad, Calif.
