Head Coach Dan Spencer
On the tough end to the good overall series:
"I just told them that we got sloppy, we got sloppy. Obviously, we got sloppy on the mound. We didn't throw enough strikes in the sixth inning, and then we got sloppy with some at bats. We started feeling sorry for ourselves that we had stood out there for a long time on defense, while we were walking guys and hitting them. We didn't take care of some innings. We had a couple chances to add-on at five, with a man on third and a man on second we had some things going our way and we couldn't put together another inning offensively and we couldn't get off the field. They scored five runs and hit one base hit that got out of the infield. Anybody will beat you there, and I thought we had them on the ropes early. I really did. I thought Louie (Head) did a good job on short rest. He threw enough strikes and he gave us a chance and we just got capsized and then we didn't fight back very well, I didn't think, offensively as far as trying to get back in the game. You cant be content with just being good and winning a series. If you want to challenge yourself to be great then someone has to step up and do something both offensively and defensively. Someone has to have a big at bat with men in scoring position and somebody needs to come out and throw strikes."
On Kansas States relief pitching today:
"What he (James Allen) did was, and he is a solid guy, he is their closer for a reason, he threw a bunch of strikes. He threw a fastball on both sides of the plate and he threw another pitch for a strike. We had to earn everything we got against him and he made it tough on us. He was the opposite of what we were doing. We were not being very generous as far as base runners. We would walk them or hit them or bobble a ball or do something to just give them way too many opportunities if you are going to win a game. He was a good, if you are watching and you're a pitcher, he showed you how to do it. He just went in and out and he threw another pitch for a strike and he competed. We just didn't do that very well."
On the lack of big hitting as opposed to the previous two games:
"We couldn't get the big hit and we got some early and I thought we had them on their heels pretty well. When they scored the six, it turned our deal a little bit. It was still the middle of the game but we just couldn't ever right the ship. We hit a ball or two hard later but we needed to peck away and get one back and then get two back and then find somebody that could give us a zero and we got a couple zeroes late but by then the damage was done."
Outfielder Taylor Ashby
On whether he was surprised Tech gave up such a big lead:
"Definitely. We came out early and got that lead, and I thought things were going to go well. I guess we kind of got lackadaisical; I don't know what the deal was. We kind of had bad approaches, couple of bad days on the mound, walked too many, didn't have enough good (at-bats), and they beat us."
On tying for sixth overall on the career hits list the night before:
"It's definitely an honor and something I'm proud of, but I'm not really thinking about it too much. I'm just trying to have good (at-bats), and the hitting will come once you have a good approach. I'm really not thinking about it much, but I'm definitely proud to be there."
