LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior linebacker Brian Duncan (Baton Rouge, La.) has been named to a second preseason watch list as today the Football Writers Association of America and the Charlotte Touchdown Club named him to the Bronko Nagurski Preseason Watch List. The award is presented annually at the conclusion of the regular season to the nation's best defensive player.
This is the second watch list for Duncan as he is was put on the Lott Trophy Watch List this past April. The senior has been a key component of the Tech defense as he has led the squad in tackles the last two seasons. He was also named to the Good Works Team sponsored by the American Football Coaches Association last season.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded annually to the nation's best defensive player and has been presented every year since 1993. Nagurski was an All-American lineman at Minnesota from 1927-1929 and played professionally for the Chicago Bears in the 1930's.
Players may be added or deleted to the Bronko Nagurski List throughout the season. The FWAA selects a Defensive Player of the Week during the 2010 season and if the player is not on the Watch List, he is automatically added.
The FWAA and the Charlotte Touchdown Club will announce five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on November 18. The award will be presented at the annual Bronko Nagurski Award Banquet Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at The Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.
