Weygandt Wins US Junior Pole Vault Title

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's Shade Weygandt won the US Junior pole vault title and earned a spot on the US Junior Championship team and current strength and conditioning coach Jason Young finished second in the discus to earn his spot on the US National Championships team.
Weygandt a freshman, added another championship to her trophy case today at the US Junior Outdoor Championships. The two-time Big 12 Champion set a new meet record of 14'-00.50" (4.28M) to win the US Junior Outdoor pole vault title.
It is the second year in a row that Weygandt has been on the US Junior team and she earned some redemption from a year ago after finishing second to Nebraska's Natalie Willer on attempts. The next meet for Weygandt will by the World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada from July 19-25, 2010.
Texas Tech's strength and conditioning coach Jason Young finished in second place in the men's discus throw. His mark of 200'-07" (61.15M) was behind two-time US discus champ and two Olympian Casey Malone. Young secured a spot on the World Championship team.
Teammate Candace Jackson was one spot for qualifying for the final of the junior 200M. The freshman ran a 24.46 and placed ninth.
Terra Evans ran an 11.77 in the semi-final of the 100M and placed 16th. She did not advance to the final round of the 100M.
Tech will have Bryce Lamb compete in the long jump on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
