LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior midfielder Taylor Lytle was one of 11 players selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Soccer team, which was voted on by the conference coaches and announced today by the league office.
Lytle, a first team All-Big 12 selection in 2009, is the second player under head coach Tom Stone to be named to the preseason team as Brittney Harrison was selected prior to the 2008 season.
"It is nice to see that Taylor (Lytle) is being recognized for her play over the last two seasons," Stone said. "She continues to work hard in the offseason to develop her game, and her contributions to our program go well beyond the field of play."
With a program that continues to improve each year under Stone, the Texas Tech women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the competitive Big 12 Conference.
The sixth-place finish is the highest the Red Raiders have ever been picked to finish in the league. In 2008, Tech was predicted to finish seventh in Stone's second season.
Last season the Red Raiders went 8-8-4 and finished tied for seventh in the conference with a 3-4-3 mark, while advancing to the Big 12 Championship for the third-straight year. Along with Lytle's first team All-Big 12 selection in 2009, Tech had three freshmen, Dawn Ward, Tiffini Smith and Morgan Johnson, named to the Big 12 All-Newcomer team. Tech received more freshmen recognition than any other Big 12 school.
