LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech held its first practice in full pads this morning in what was the fifth practice of the 2010 training camp.
For the second straight day, the Red Raiders practiced at 10:45 a.m. due to the heat and will do so again on Friday. The Red Raiders will hold the first of three two-a-days tomorrow with practice scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The Red Raiders practiced for two hours this morning on the Jones AT&T Stadium turf and afterward Coach Tuberville stressed the importance of mental toughness. His direct quote to the team was "we have to be as mentally strong in the fourth quarter as we are in the first quarter."
LEWIS NAMED TO BILETNIKOFF WATCH LIST
For the second straight season, senior receiver Detron Lewis is a candidate for the prestigious Biletnikoff Award that honors the nation's top wide receiver. Former Red Raider wide receiver Michael Crabtree won this award in 2007 and 2008. Lewis led the team with 844 receiving yards in 2009 and was tied with teammate Alex Torres with six touchdowns.
TUBERVILLE HITS THE NATIONAL AIRWAVES THIS AFTERNOON
Shortly after Coach Tuberville addressed the local media following practice, he made a live guest appearance on the nationally syndicated "Jim Rome Show." Later in the afternoon, Coach Tub was a guest on the "Scott Van Pelt Show" on ESPN Radio.
