LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's training camp moved into double digits today as the Red Raiders completed day No. 10 and are inching their way closer to the season opener against SMU on Sept. 5.
Day 10 was not the only double digit number of the afternoon as the temperature on the FieldTurf playing surface on the floor of Jones AT&T Stadium was well over the double digit mark. The Red Raiders held their first workout in the heat of the day since Sunday, Aug. 7, as practice began right at 3 p.m.
Afterward, Coach Tuberville told the media that the practice went well but he can tell that there are some tired bodies on the team. The third and final two-a-day is planned for tomorrow and the team will practice at 7:15 on Thursday.
TROY VINCENT SPEAKS TO THE TEAM
Troy Vincent, a former cornerback in the NFL, addressed the team at 8 a.m. this morning as part of an outreach program through the NCAA. Vincent is currently the Vice President of Player Development for the National Football League and makes the speaking circuit to college football teams encouraging them to make good decisions. His speech focuses on proper decision making, avoiding illegal contact with agents and getting the most out of the collegiate experience.
CRAWFORD IS PUSHING FOR PLAYING TIME
Junior running back Aaron Crawford is making a serious push in the running back race and providing plenty of competition for teammates Baron Batch and Eric Stephens. Crawford has received more reps in practice during this training camp than at any other point in his Texas Tech career. Coach Tuberville told the media after practice that Crawford "is making the improvement that we wanted him to."
