LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman forward Jessica Fuston made her collegiate debut this past weekend and her standout performance did not go unnoticed as she was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
The Cedar Park, Texas, native started both matches last weekend against TCU and Texas State in helping the Red Raiders to two shutouts. In the first match against the Horned Frogs, Fuston scored two of the Tech's goals with the first coming at the eight-minute mark on a cross from fellow freshman Jessica Disabella. Fuston scored again with 44 seconds to go in the first half on a cross from the left side of the box from freshman Mallory Yacullo. For the match, Fuston played 74 minutes with two shots and two shots-on-goal to go along with her two goals. Against Texas State, she played 63 minutes with six shots and three shots-on-goal.
"The one thing about Jessica's game we knew would translate to the collegiate level was her comfort level in front of the goal," said Tech head coach Tom Stone. "She scored two nice goals on Friday night and threatened to score many times over the two games last weekend."
Fuston was joined on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week by Kelsey Wys (GK, Florida State), Jessica Schuveiller (D, Notre Dame), Brittiny Rhoades (D, South Carolina), Tahnai Annis (MF, Florida), Nichole Schiro (F, Loyola, Md.), Kate Allen (F, Northwestern), Sydney Leroux (F, UCLA), Addie Eggleston (F, LSU), Heidi Sabatura (F, Villanova) and Meghan Lenczyk (F, Virginia). Lenczyk was named the Player of the Week.
