Former Lady Raider Looking for Another WNBA Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas - Former Texas Tech Lady Raider standout and current New York Liberty Plenette Pierson is in the hunt for her third WNBA Championship with the playoffs beginning tonight as the Liberty host the Indiana Fever in game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Pierson is a two-time WNBA Champion having won the title with Detroit in 2006 and 2008. In 2007, Pierson won the inaugural WNBA Sixth Woman Award.
Pierson enters the playoffs averaging 9.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 33 games, eight of those games were played as a member of the Tulsa Shock before being traded to the Liberty on June 14. The Kingwood, Texas, native was originally selected as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury. She was traded to the Shock on June 29, 2005 by the Mercury.
Game one of the three-game series will be played in New York at Madison Square Garden tonight at 6 p.m. CDT on NBATV, with the second game being played in Indiana on Sun. Aug 29, at 7 p.m. CDT on ESPN2. If necessary, a deciding game three will take play on Wed., Sept. 1, in New York at 6:30 p.m. CDT on NBATV.
A 2003 All-Big 12 first team selection, Pierson left her mark at Tech as she wrapped up her career ranking sixth all-time in career scoring with 1,602 points. Her 787 career rebounds rank ninth all-time at Tech, while her 116 career blocks also rank ninth.
