LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Jessica Fuston received her first conference honor as she was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performances at Northwestern State and at Rice last weekend.
This is the second-straight week that Fuston has been rewarded for her efforts on the soccer field. Last week she picked up TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week honors for helping Tech to wins over TCU and Texas State.
"It's always great when a hard-working player gets recognized and we are excited about the nice start to the year Jess Fuston has had," said head coach Tom Stone. "Jess sets a high standard for herself and she brings a nice comfort level in front of goal to our team."
The Cedar Park, Texas, native started both of Texas Tech's matches over the weekend and played all 90 minutes at Rice. The freshman forward scored her third and fourth goals of the season on Sunday against the Owls and is tied for third in the conference with eight total points on the season.
The Red Raiders notched two shutout wins over Northwestern State and Rice to improve to 4-0, the best start in school history.
