LUBBOCK, Texas - Texastech.com sat down with Lady Raider Teena Wickett to find out what she'd been up to this summer. Wickett is a senior forward from Vallejo, Calif., and is entering her final year and first in a Texas Tech uniform. Wickett took some time with us to discuss school, going to Canada with the team, and what she likes to do in her spare time.
What's your favorite part of summer?
Classes, I like getting those out of the way. I took six hours first session and nine hours second session. I look forward to working out with the team, creating more of a team bond and getting ready for the season.
What's your favorite thing to do in Lubbock during the summer time?
I'm really kind of a homebody so I don't go out as much, but we did go to Main Event, as a team, so that was really cool, we played laser tag and bowling. I liked laser tag the best, and it got me a little bit more in shape with all that running around.
Did you like going to Canada?
Yeah, I loved going to Canada, it was a different experience. I'd never been out the country so it was fun. I got to go to a lot of new places, it was different, it was not what I'm used to but it was good experience.
What was your favorite thing about Canada?
Going to Victoria.
Was the competition different than what you expected or are used to?
No, not really, the first team was more aggressive like how the Big 12 is and the other teams weren't as competitive, but it was still fun playing against them and to get that experience.
What skills did you work on to get better for the season?
I worked on getting stronger, with my upper-body and I worked on my conditioning, getting more in shape so I can stay out longer on the court.
Did you get to spend a lot of time at home this summer?
No, coming back from Canada I got to go home for a week then I had to come right back here.
Is that okay with you?
Yes, it is now because this is my last year so I know I will have plenty more time to spend time with them after I'm done playing.
