Jamodrick McGruder made an immediate impact during his first campaign with the Red Raiders in 2010. Named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American, Barnes batted .322 (59-for-183) with 47 run scored, six doubles, three triples, seven home runs, 32 RBI and led the team with 23-of-27 stolen bases.
In fact, McGruder became the first freshman in Texas Tech history to lead the team in stolen bases. He was solid against elite competition batting a team-high .387 in 16 games played against nationally-ranked opponents and hit .351 with 14 stolen bases in Big 12 action.
"Jamodrick is an explosive offensive player," Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer said. "He can beat you with a single, with a walk and a stolen base - to get two bases - he can hit the ball out of the park, and just do a lot of things offensively. Defensively it's the same, he covers a lot of ground. He is a very hard worker and is a good teammate to have."
McGruder is one of four returning position players for Texas Tech this year.
