LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season is underway, and throughout the remainder of the semester Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Bo Altobelli (C - 6-1, 190 - R/R - So./1L - Plano, Texas/Plano)
As a true freshman in 2010, Bo Altobelli saw action in 17 games while making five starts, including two behind the plate and three at third base. He batted .231 (6-for-26) with one double and five RBI.
He made his collegiate debut starting behind the plate against Jacksonville State on Feb. 21. He went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI in his first game as a Red Raider. His first career multi-hit game came against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3/24) going 2-for-4 with another two-RBI contest.
Altobelli's first career start in Big 12 play was in Tech's series finale at Texas A&M (3/21) where he went 1-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch.
"Bo is a very good catcher," Texas Tech head coach Dan Spencer said. "He can catch, he can defend, he can throw from there and is just a guy who likes to play. If we needed another guy to play third base, he could do that also. Bo is a tremendous asset to our club."
Altobelli and junior Kevin Whitehead are the only returning catchers from last season. Two freshmen catchers (Trey Kensing and Mason Randolph) are also listed on the fall roster.
