LUBBOCK, Texas - As part of the Texas Tech softball program's commitment to give back to the Lubbock community, the Red Raiders volunteered for numerous service projects during the fall semester, including events with the Special Olympics and Willowbend Elementary School.
The Red Raiders attended the Special Olympics bowling event at South Plains Lanes, serving as encouragers for the numerous athletes participating while also presenting each with medals at the end of the day.
The team also met with local elementary students at Willowbend Elementary School several times during the semester, visiting with students and assisting with various school programs.
Events such as this are not only important aspects for Tech softball program but the entire athletics department as well. The team will continue their community involvement during the spring semester.
The Red Raiders begin the 2011 season on Feb. 10 against BYU in the Arizona State Kajikawa Tournament in Tempe, Ariz.
