Flora, Meyers on first meeting
LUBBOCK, Texas - Less than a week on the job, new Texas Tech head coach Don Flora was finally able to put some names to faces Thursday afternoon as the volleyball program held its first meeting to open the spring semester.
Flora, who was introduced as the eighth head coach in school history last Friday, continued with his theme of "moving forward" in the meeting as the former New Mexico State assistant outlined his plans for the future.
"It felt fantastic to see the faces I have spoken to over the phone," Flora said. "These student-athletes make me feel we can reach new heights with Texas Tech Volleyball. The sense of being ready for a fresh way to train and work was felt throughout the room."
Flora inherits 16 athletes to his roster this spring, led by returning juniors Amanda Dowdy and Karlyn Meyers. Tech was one of the younger squads in the Big 12 a year ago, and as Flora stated in his opening meeting, the spring will not only benefit individual players but the entire program as well.
With his entire staff nearly in place, Tech will begin group workouts early next week in anticipation of the team's spring period which begins in late February.
