The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season is underway and throughout the remainder of the semester, Texas Tech Athletics Communications will take an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.

Duke von Schamann had to wait a while to make his debut as a Red Raider on the mound, but when he did he didn't disappoint. After missing his entire first collegiate season due to Tommy John surgery and then missing the beginning part of the 2011 season due to injury, von Schamann came out strong when making his first impression on the mound last season.
He finished the regular season as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week - Tech's third newcomer to receive the award during the 2011 season - after dominating No. 22 Oklahoma State in the Red Raiders 5-3 regular-season finale.
von Schamann went 5-0 with a 3.98 ERA in 13 appearances (7 starts) during 41.1 innings while allowing 41 hits, 21 runs (18 earned) and nine walks with 19 strikeouts while opponents batted just .261 against him.
In fact, von Schamann was the anchor of the Tech pitching staff during the final month of the season going 3-0 with a 1.42 ERA in 25.1 innings during his final five starts of the season.
von Schamann joined fellow freshman teammate right-handed pitcher Trey Masek as the first Texas Tech freshmen duo since 1988 to each have five wins during their freshman seasons.
"Duke is a tremendous competitor," four-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He was our most consistent starter down the stretch last season. He would get us deep in the game with the lead or with us in a position to win. I think he is a guy who can go out and give you six, seven or eight innings regularly on his turn."
In addition, von Schamann became the first Texas Tech freshman in over 10 years to start his career as a Red Raider with a 5-0 record. Four of his wins came as a starter with one victory coming during a three-inning relief outing against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
