LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Texas Tech women's basketball team returned to the main floor at United Spirit Arena on Sunday for its first official practice of the 2011-12 season.
The Lady Raiders are coming off a 22-11 season and NCAA Tournament berth while returning 12 players from last year's squad.
"It was a great first day," head coach Kristy Curry said. "It's so good to get the ball in their hands. Obviously, players get tired of offseason conditioning, and anytime you can put the ball in their hands and continue to improve, I think it's a good thing. We're definitely excited to get started."
Freshman Amber Battle (Cibola H.S./Albuquerque, N.M.) joins Tech's 12 returners including five sophomores, five juniors, and seniors Jordan Barncastle and Kierra Mallard.
Texas Tech will hold workouts throughout the next few weeks in preparation for its first exhibition games against Angelo State (Nov. 2) and Metro State (Nov. 6). The Lady Raiders begin the 2011-12 regular season on Nov. 11 against New Mexico at United Spirit Arena.
