Friday, Little will represent the basketball program when he is inducted as a member of the 2011 Texas Tech Athletics Hall of Fame Class.
"It's a pretty special moment for me and my family," Little said.
Little was a star basketball player at Abilene High School, and went on to play for Texas Tech from 1971-73. During his time at Tech, Little was a two-time All-Southwest Conference guard and led the Red Raiders to the Southwest Conference championship in 1973.
"You play sports to win championships." Little said. "It was a great feeling to finally accomplish it."
Little was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Supplemental Draft following his career at Texas Tech
Two of Little's brothers played basketball at Southwest Conference schools and his daughter won the state championship at Wylie High School last season. In a family full of hoops talent, the spotlight is Richard's for the moment.
"The family is really excited about it," Little said.
Following his graduation from Tech, Little became involved in the oil business before starting his own lawn care company, which he has been involved in for over 30 years.
The Hall of Fame Banquet is scheduled to be held on Friday, Oct. 7 at 6:00 in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall. The honorees will also be recognized prior to the Texas A&M football game the following day.
