Lady Raiders vs. Metro State

HEAD COACH Kristy Curry
On Tech being prepared for the regular season on Friday
"I think it's been great for us because like tonight we were able to get everybody in, in the first-half and that's very difficult to do and we were able to see how everybody would respond in games, individually and as a team and see different combinations. We just feel like we have an opportunity to be 12 strong and we've got to get them to buy into that because we really mean it and we feel like we have a lot of strengths and we need everybody to be unselfish and the point after the game was to play as hard as you possibly can when your number is called, and we can live with effort mistakes but we have got to understand that we could be deep and that could work to our strength especially when it gets to January and we are able to play 20 to 25 minuets a game and we are able to build our conditioning and stamina that way."
On Casey Morris
"She had one of the highest and most severe grade sprains and was out for about three weeks but the way she has responded and come back she has just continued to get stronger every week and she does a great job of being tireless as far as how hard she works and she's hard on herself and she really pushes herself and she's stubborn, meaning in a good way, she just wants to be competitive everyday and I love her competitive spirit and it really brings an edge for us. She continues to feel comfortable with the system and understanding what we need and when we need it the way we need it and it's great to have she and Monique (Smalls) that understand not only at the point guard spot but at the two spot, so it's great to have two floor generals in your back court."
On who will be starting in the season opener against New Mexico
"I have to get them to understand, it may depend on who we are playing, the situation and how practices have gone. That's how it was at Angelo State, that is how the past three days before that, that I thought who deserved to start. At the end of the day it was the same way. I am not trying to play mind games, they know that about me, I just want to win games and see them be successful. If you look down through here Christine (Hyde) had 22 minutes and Chynna (Brown) had 17. We are just going to see how things are going and not get caught up in who starts and who finishes, but when the minutes are there play hard."
On the cohesiveness of the team
"It is good. I always explain to them that it's not what you say but how you say it. I think they understand each other and the right to time say this and that. It`s a good group of kids. They are just good people, and it really translates to 94 feet. That is something that we never have to worry about. They do a great job in the locker room. The locker room is good and it's because of the kind of people that are in there and it makes a difference, and we have to continue that. I don't think there is a jealous bone in any of their bodies, and they just all want to help their team be successful and understand it is the best locker room we have ever had. They have experienced in the past where that is one area that needed to get better, and it says a lot about this group. Things are good, but again, we have a lot of improvement to do. This isn't reality right here. We have to continue to improve everyday from our free throws to our rebounding, a lot of little areas."
Casey Morris - JR - G - 15 points
On the regular season starting on Friday
"We are excited, I think we have been working hard the whole off season and even in these opening games, and I feel like against New Mexico we are going to be really excited even more than we already are and we've been working hard and it will pay off in the game and we are ready to show it."
On having multiple teammates being able to score
"It's really nice, we've all known it the whole time, the team, and we know how skilled each other are, we all practice together everyday and we know what we are capable of so it's nice being able to show it on the floor, and I think everyone is excited and ready to contribute this year."
Christine Hyde - JR - G - 10 points
On how much the team has matured since the last season
"We are definitely carrying it over. We continue to grow everyday as a team, on and off the court. I feel like it shows on the court and how we play together and how we are able to pick each other up after mistakes. We are able to tell each other, `It's ok, lets just keep going.' and things like that. So, I feel like we have all grown as a team."
