The Texas Tech baseball team's fall season ended with the annual Red & Black Series at the of October, but throughout the remainder of the semester Texas Tech Athletics Communications will continue taking an inside look into the Tech program with Red Raider Profiles on each player.
Scott Erzinger (LHP - 6-3, 225 - L/L - RS Jr./2L - Houston, Texas/Lamar)
Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Scott Erzinger brings a veterans presence and a hard-working mentality with him to the Texas Tech program. Entering his fourth year with the team and third season on the field, Erzinger has made 19 appearances on the mound during his Red Raider career.
Coming off a strong summer playing in the Texas Collegiate League with the Coppell Copperheads, Erzinger was among Texas Tech leaders this fall with 21 strikeouts in 20.2 innings pitched. He is one of only three pitchers on the team with 20 or more strikeouts this fall joining LHP Rusty Shellhorn (22) and RHP Duke von Schamann (21).
Erzinger made four appearances last season while logging 2.1 innings pitched with three strikeouts as opponents batted just .222.
As a freshman, Erzinger tallied 20.1 innings pitched on 15 appearances (1 start) while notching 21 strikeouts on the season.
Erzinger is one of 10 returning pitchers for the Red Raiders this season.
"Scott has gotten a little bit better every year he has been here," fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer said. "He is a great kid and is very good in the clubhouse. He is a leader on that pitching staff. Even though he hasn't thrown a ton of innings, guys look to him because his work ethic is beyond approach. The way he goes about his business is solid."
In addition, Scott's twin brother, Steven, is a senior linebacker at Army where he is in his fourth year as a starter.
