Dominguez Leads Texas Tech in Puerto Rico First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - Playing in the first tournament of the spring, the Texas Tech women's golf team opened the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in 11th place Sunday heading into the final two rounds on Monday and Tuesday.
Backed by a 1-under 71 by Gabby Dominguez, the Lady Raiders completed the day with a 22-over 310, leaving the team two strokes behind Gonzaga and Oklahoma for ninth place and three strokes from Northwestern in eighth overall.
Dominguez finished the day high on the leaderboard, trailing only Alabama's Camilla Lennarth, who fired a 2-under 72 opening round. The sophomore finished the round with four birdies and an eagle on the par-4 12th hole.
Deborah DeVilla posted a 6-over 78 round to sit in a tie for 42nd overall, while Kim Kaufman finished one stroke higher in a tie for 55th. Hannah Arnold completed Tech's card with a 10-over 82. Tech's lone other player Alex Gibson finished with a 15-over 87 round.
Alabama leads the tournament by 14 strokes after a 2-under 286 round. Purdue and Iowa State are tied for second at 12-over, while TCU and Florida State sit in a tie for fourth at 15-over. SMU is sixth at 17-over and Kent State is one stroke back from the Mustangs at 18-over in seventh overall.
The Lady Raiders continue play at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico with a 6 a.m. (CT) tee time Monday. Fans can keep up with second round action at www.golfstat.com.
