Women's Tennis Defeats No. 68 LSU, 5-1

LUBBOCK, TX - The Texas Tech women's tennis team won the first match of their three-game road trip to Louisiana this afternoon with a convincing 5-1 victory over No. 68 LSU at the Hilton Indoor Tennis Complex in New Orleans, LA.
The match was moved indoors due to cold weather and began with singles play.
Freshman Samantha Adams, playing at No. 2 singles, grabbed the first point for the Lady Raiders with her two set win over LSU's Keri Frankenberger, 6-4, 6-0. Texas Tech's Caroline Starck added the next team point with her 6-2, 6-2, win over Kaitlin Burns at the third singles position.
Elizabeth Ullathorne won the first set at No. 1 singles against LSU's No. 33 singles player, Whitney Wolf, 6-2. Wolf took the next two sets with identical 6-1 scores for LSU's only point in the match.
Lady Raider Sandra Dynka stopped Ariel Morton at the sixth position, 6-4, 6-1, to give Texas Tech a 3-1 lead in the match with two singles matches underway.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Haley Fornier had already won the first set against LSU's Ebie Wilson, 7-5, and was in a tight second set while senior Kelsy Garland had lost her first set at No. 4 singles, 6-3, and had bounced back to claim the second set, 6-2.
Fournier, from Leawood, Kan., finished off Ebie Wilson in the second set, 7-5, for the singles win and to clinch Texas Tech's third dual match win of the young season just before Kelsy Garland won the third set in her match, 6-2, for Tech's fifth points of the match.
Texas Tech takes on the Green Wave of Tulane on Friday beginning at 2:30 p.m. (CT) at the Goldring Tennis Center. On Saturday, the Texas Tech team will face Alabama. First serve is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
