LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior men's golfer Tyler Weworksi has been named the February Golfer of the Month by the Big 12 Conference alongside Iowa State's Victoria Stefanson, who took home the women's honor.
Weworski led the Red Raiders to their first team title of the spring two weeks ago in San Antonio as Tech laid claim to its third straight UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational crown. In the process, Weworksi finished in a tie for third place after firing rounds of 67, 67 and 76.
In the spring opener in Kona, Hawai'I, he ended the Ameri Ari Invitational in fourth place with scores of 70, 65 and 69. His second round score of 7-under 65 marked the third lowest round in Texas Tech history. His fourth place finish helped pace the team to sixth place in the final team standings.
Weworski and his teammates will return to the links March 11-13 when they compete in the 2011 Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev. Texas Tech is ranked No. 13 in the nation in this week's Golfweek Rankings, which is the highest ranking of the season for the Red Raiders.
