Texas Tech opened their Friday morning match by winning each of the three doubles matches over the Midwestern State Mustangs. Caroline Starck and Nikki Sanders got the squad off to a solid start with their 8-2 win over MSU's Rozike Janzen van Rensburg and Alex Odell-Michels. Sophomores Sandra Dynka and Lorena Aviles gave Texas Tech their first point of the match with their 8-5 win over the Mustangs du of Lindsey Holcomb and Ashley Huse. Lady Raiders Elizabeth and Haley Fournier completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over Leah Roberts and Abbie Lewis.

Freshman Nikki Sanders won her No. 5 singles match over Lindsey Holcomb, 6-2, 6-2. Lady Raider Haley Fournier, playing at No. 3 singles, clinched the match for Texas Tech with a 6-0, 6-2, win over MSU's 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Elizabeth Ullathorne added the fifth point of the match at the top position with her 6-1, 6-2, win over Midwestern State's Rozike Janzen van Rensburg. Caroline Starck won her No. 2 singles match over Alex Odell-Michels, 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Sandra Dynka, playing at the No. 4 spot, found herself down 0-3 in the first set to MUS's Abbie Lewis. Sandra battled back to even the set at 3-3 and pulled ahead to win the set 7-6 (5). She won the second set for the match sweep, 6-2.
The squad returns to the McLeod Tennis Center for two additional matches this weekend. They take on the Lady Broncs of UT Pan American at 6 p.m. Friday and the University of Denver Pioneers at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Coach Todd Petty - "The team didn't play very well in their doubles matches this morning. They straightened things out in each of their singles matches and played very well. I thought Sandra came back strong in her opening singles match after being down 0-3 to a much-improved Midwestern State player. We forward to playing at home later tonight and then again on Sunday morning."
