Tech Track Headed to Mt. SAC Relays

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 3 Red Raiders and No. 15 Lady Raiders are off to Walnut, Calif., for the 53rd Mt. SAC Relays held April 13-16.
The Red Raiders and Lady Raiders had a successful Texas Relays last week as two school records were broke and three Texas Relays titles overall were won.
The hurdle crew shined at the meet with personal bests from Kelsy Lloyd (13.16w) and Omo Osaghae (13.22w). Bryce Brown and Jamele Mason finished first and second in the 400M hurdles and both beat two-time NCAA defending champ, Jeshua Anderson of Washington State. Osaghae (110M H), Brown (400M H), Mason (400M H) and Shane Brathwaite (110M H) are all ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA.
Shade Weygandt raised the bar again for Tech. The sophomore cleared a personal best of 14'-7.25" (4.45M). She is No. 2 ranked on the NCAA descending order list and has Tech's top five jumps in school history. Weygandt will look to defend her Mt. SAC title won last year.
The men's 4x400M relay ran a strong time of 3:05.08 at the Texas Relays. It is the fastest time ran by the relay since 2009.The time ranks them sixth in the NCAA.
The throws have been a highlight as well. Julian Wruck still leads the nation in the discus at 203'-00" (61.88M). He is the only discus thrower in the nation to have two marks over 200 feet this season.
Tech will open up some student-athletes in individual races this week. The 400M will see the most faces. Taylor Evans and Gil Roberts will both run their first of the season at the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Mt. SAC Relays will begin tomorrow with the men's decathlon with the bulk of the competition beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. (PST).
