LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech's 2011 recruiting class was strengthened today as head coach Tommy Tuberville secured the services of five-star defensive tackle Delvon Simmons from McKeesport, Penn. He is believed to be the highest rated player to ever sign with Texas Tech football.
"Delvon has the ability to be a difference maker in our program," said Tuberville. "He is an explosive and disruptive player and an outstanding athlete. We are thrilled to have him."
Simmons originally signed a national letter of intent with North Carolina back in February but has since been granted a release from that commitment by the Tar Heels. Simmons has signed a financial aid agreement with Texas Tech and will join teammate Branden Jackson in Lubbock this fall.
