LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior offensive lineman Lonnie Edwards was one of five Red Raiders honored by Phil Steele Magazine as 2011 Preseason All-Big 12 selections, the publication announced on Friday morning.
Edwards led the way for the Red Raiders as he was Texas Tech's lone first-team selection. Edwards was key to Texas Tech's sucess in 2010 and a bowl win over Northwestern on New Year's Day. He will anchor an offensive line group that returns completely intact from last season and will be the focal point of Tech's wide open offense.
Junior Cody Davis earned second team honors by the publication a year after he logged 87 total tackles and started all 13 games. Davis was an Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection in 2010 and a First-Team Academic All-Big 12 pick.
Junior running back Eric Stephens', Texas Tech's career leader in kickoff returns, was chosen to the third team alongside senior offensive lineman Mickey Okafor. Junior receiver Alex Torres wrapped up Tech's presence on the preseason team as he was named to the fourth team.
