The Red Raiders returned to the practice field on Monday afternoon for their first full workout since holding a weekend scrimmage at Jones AT&T Stadium on Saturday.
The break, which lasted just less than 48 hours, marked the team's longest layoff since camp opened over two weeks ago. During the time off, the Texas Tech coaching staff had time to evaluate what they saw in the scrimmage, and on Monday head coach Tommy Tuberville said he was impressed with what the film room showed.
"We had probably our best scrimmage," Tuberville said.
Tuberville praised the effort of his offense Saturday, specifically the receiving core.
"We caught the ball pretty well," Tuberville said. "I thought Darrin Moore had his best day, and Seth Doege had a good day."
But Monday it was time to get back to work, and the Red Raiders did exactly that as they held a two-hour practice in full-pads at the Football Training Facility.
Following the workout, Tuberville made sure to add that his team still has much to work on despite the steps the squad took over the weekend.
"We are improving," Tuberville added.
The coaching staff said prior to Saturday that the scrimmage would answer several questions about position battles, and Monday they held true to their statement.
Beginning this week, Tuberville and his staff will begin trimming their depth chart on both offense and defense in preparation for the Sept 3 season-opener.
"I think the picture is starting to clear up," offensive coordinator Neal Brown said.
Tuberville said the coaching staff has narrowed the entire two-deep depth chart, but added that there is still competition at each position.
"There is going to be competition every day and every week." he said.
That competition will continue through the final week of training camp, which closes on Friday, before the team begins preparations for the season-opener on Sept 3 against Texas State.
