LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball program and the NCAA are joining to be part of the "Pack The House Challenge" this weekend when the No. 21 Lady Raiders begin a three-game homestand beginning with Texas at 2 p.m., Saturday at United Spirit Arena.
Fans are encouraged to WEAR RED and can purchase tickets for just $3. Each ticket includes a coupon for a free Taco Bell .99 cent menu item with the purchase of a large drink valid only at participating Lubbock locations.
"We've been so pleased with our crowds all year. It's so unbelievable," Texas Tech head coach Kristy Curry said. "You see so many women's basketball fans, and I feel like our fans are really loyal and are just going to continue to stick with this team. This is just a tremendous league for women's basketball when it comes to attendance. We're going to go out there Saturday and we're going to play for those folks, and we're going to leave it out there for them, and hopefully, they're going to come out and support us.
"The Rowdy Raiders have been unbelievable, the High Riders have been unbelievable, and it's a lot of fun. I get a lot of texts and phone calls, and emails, and the students are so excited about what we're doing. There's not a better student group or fan base in the league and the numbers prove that."
NCAA staff will select one school from the schools in each of the 33 participating conferences as a conference winner (independent schools will compete against each other as a 'conference'). From the pool of 33 conference winners, one school will be selected as the grand prize winner and the remaining 32 conference winners will receive prizes.
In addition, the NCAA will make a $500 donation to a non-profit organization (of each institution's choice and subject to approval by the NCAA) on behalf of each of the 33 winners.
Each conference office will receive a commemorative memento in recognition of the school winner.
Fans can order in advance by calling (806) 742-4412. The tickets are also available on game day at United Spirit Arena ticket offices.
