The Texas Tech Men's Golf Team will head to the Big Island of Hawaii and open the spring portion of its schedule on Wednesday morning at the 22nd Annual Ameri Ari at Waikoloa Beach Resort in Kona.
The Ameri Ari, being hosted by Hawaii-Hilo, will feature a 20-team field that includes some of the top collegiate golf programs in the nation. Arch-rival Texas enters the tournament with a No. 1 national ranking according to the latest standings from Golfweek Magazine while the Oregon Ducks currently stand at No. 2. The tournament boasts four other teams ranked in the Top 10 nationally in No. 4 UCLA, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Georgia Tech and No. 10 Washington.
The Red Raiders finished in sixth place at last year's Ameri Ari Invitational with a 1-over 289.
Texas Tech enters the spring season being led by true freshman Clement Sordet of Charbonnieres, France. Sordet played nine rounds during the fall and posted a 73.2 stroke average per-round. He took home medalist honors in The Caramel Cup that helped Texas Tech secure a victory over Vanderbilt.
Junior Finley Ewing IV is right behind Sordet with a 74.2 stroke average and is the only Red Raider to play in all 12 rounds of the fall season. Ewing posted two Top 10 finishes and shot a low round of 71 in two rounds of the Adams Cup of Newport in late September.
